As a habitual thing, humans have told white lies to protect their fellow ones. Honesty is rare and appreciated, but sometimes lies are needed to maintain a good social environment.
On the one hand society tell the youth ones to always tell the truth, but when they are always trustworthiness adults consider the child discourteous. Nevertheless, as the years go by people learn such thing is hard to do without hurting others. This realization creates a whole new "white lies civilization" cycle.
On the other hand telling the truth is also vital to our survival as a community. In extreme cases, related to disrespecting the rules authorities implies to you, the truth is an obligation and need to be told.
To conclude both lying and telling the truth are necessary to a balanced life. Equilibrium between being sensitive towards others and always say what you feel, in my opinion, is the best way to live a stressful free life and don't hurt others.

Why is melancholy so valued in art?
For a long time now, melancholy and sadness have been valued in art so much it led many artists to commit suicide. It is no surprise for anyone when the news announce the death of a famous singer or actor, due to the fact there is so much pressure on them to be famous from the start to the end of their career.
Some people believe that pressure is a normal and healthy thing for any career and that it encourages professionals throught hard times leading them to get better results. On other hand pressure may lead to anxiety and depression, increasing the probability to use drugs, such as controlled medicines, alcohol and cocaine.
I firmly believe that people ho work with art suffer more pressure because we live in an conservative environment where being creative is a synonym of thinking outside of the box, and we as a society are not mature enough to accept that.
On balance, I feel that sadness is so valued due to the fact it is accepted but creativity that comes from happiness is not. Society is so used to artists being sad that we stopped caring when they really suffer from it.

Essay #1 - Netflix
Letícia Freitas Mendonça
FCE2
The reason why Netflix became so addicting is a mystery, in my opinion it is a mixture of different facts that made the website a world - wide fever. The first reason that I will talk about will be that it is cheap, secondly it is easy to use, and lastly the 15-20 second 'breaks' between each episode.
So, to begin with, Netflix charges their costumers about $15 dollars in the USA, and R$15 in Brazil. That is just R$180 per year, and you can use the website anywhere in the world, any time of the day, for as long as you want, pausing and creating a personal list with your favorites shows.
Another reason is that it is easy to manipulate the website. There is a browser that ables you to search any show, and if it is not available in your country Netflix will indicate you shows or movies that have a plot that is similar to the program you were searching. You can easily add films yo your list and pause the show you are watching.
Lastly, after you are done watching one episode another one will start in a short time lapse, of 15 or 20 seconds.
